Personal Assistant for People with Disabilities

The service for Persons with Disabilities was established by articles 32-39 of Law 4837/2021. This is a program that aims to avoid institutionalization and to strengthen the independent living of Persons with Disabilities. It is part of the wider framework of a system of social support for Persons with Disabilities, with the aim of improving the quality of life of them and their families, through the achievement of their independent living and their equal participation in all aspects of social, economic, political, cultural of life.

The Pilot Program of the Personal Assistant is defined in the General Regulations with numbers 28458/2021 (Β’ 1427) and 28455/2021 (YODD 247). 2,000 people will participate in it. Initially 1,000 people from Attica will be selected and will receive the service of the Personal Assistant for two years. Within 2023, an additional 1,000 people will be added from other Regions of the country. In 2024, the service will be expanded nationwide.

Those interested will be evaluated by special interdisciplinary committees, which will consist of a social worker, an occupational therapist and a psychologist. The assessment will be individualized and will take into account the candidate’s social characteristics, the structure of his daily life, his disability and his functionality. It will take place at his home, on a day and time of his choosing (among available appointments).
The Pilot Program is financed with 41 million euros from the Recovery and Resilience Fund. The nationwide application will be financed through the NSRF with 320 million euros.

The submission of applications for the implementation of the pilot program has started since April 14 in the Region of Attica.
